August 3, 2010

Rockingham Old Home Days Press Release

This year the event was a great success!  Fantastic carnival-style rides, complimented by Vermont Bounce created great fun for the whole family. The Friday night concert with Intercept was brimming with energy as scores of people danced in the street .  To add to the festivities PK’s was open in the dance area.  It truly was a night to remember.

Saturday arrived before we knew it.  Dunkin Donuts sponsored the donut eating contest.  Now if you’ve never witnessed this event it’s a must see!  You will laugh till you cry and the littlest ones are too funny to watch.  We started it off with the 3 to 6 years olds; they have to eat a donut off a string hanging from the rafters on the patio with their hands behind there back - very cute. Then came the Athens Pizza eating contest; I can’t tell you how many years we have been doing this - it’s now a tradition, and the kids of all ages have great fun! And who can forget the Dari-Joy ice-cream eating contest?  What a sticky fun time that was!  This is what the kids look forward to:  Great prizes, and everyone is a winner because it creates lasting memories of childhood.

Saturday proved to be a wonderful day of family fun, with a good time had by all!  The Fireworks where spectacular and the weather couldn't have been more perfect!

The Chamber had raffles that were drawn on Sunday August 1, 2010 live on Fact TV.  Jonathan Terry (6) and Joseph Terry (8) pulled our winners randomly.  First was the 125 Gallons of Oil from HB Plumbing and Heating:  The winner was Michael Douglas.  Next the Pellet Stove, also Donated by HB Plumbing and Heating:  The winner was Michelle Fairbanks.  Then we drew a name for the Cota and Cota Pellet Furnace/Boiler:  The winner was Linda James.  The final prize was donated by the Chamber, an iPad:  The winner was Brigid Hodsden.

All the many hours of hard work and planning proved well worth the effort when observing the happy smiles and cheers of excitement from the thousands who attended.

We would like to thank everyone who sponsored and assisted with our event.  Without these people we could not continue this amazing tradition:  The Town of Rockingham, The Village of Bellows Falls, Hennessey Electric, HB Plumbing and Heating, Lisai’s Market, Cota & Cota, Durand Toyota-Ford, Mr. G’s, Len-Tex, Springfield Hospital, Richards Group, Walgreens, Savings Bank of Walpole, Chamberlain Tool, The Fireworks Committee, Bellows Falls Rotary, Merchants Bank, Chittenden Bank, Halladays Florist, Barnaby’s, Village Square Booksellers, J & H Hardware, Lefoe’s Trash removal, and the GFRCC Chamber members.
